I’ve been doing some traveling, so I haven’t been spending quite as much as I would like on the plane these days. The work in these pictures spans several weeks. Although I haven’t shown pictures here, I have made trim frames for the front, side and strake windows and covered them with vinyl. As you […]
Finishing up the package shelf
I upholstered the package shelf this weekend. Initially, I was going to put upholstery fabric on the whole unit, but that would have required some cleaver sewing. It was easier to put carpet on the main part and fabric on the doors. Using carpet, the seams are visible, but not too bad. I think the […]
Installing front door trim
I can not find any section of the build manual that deals with installation of the trim that runs along the forward door pillar and joins with the overhead switch panel. After some discussion on the Velocity forum, some builders see this as a structural part that must be reinforced with UNI or TRIX then […]
Seat mounting
I lined up and drilled out holes for the front seat rails. I also sanded them down and gave them a coat of silver paint – I used that “hammered-look” paint which I’ve always found to be both attractive and durable. The front seat cushions were then lifted so I could bolt the rails onto […]
Package shelf continued and rear seats
This package shelf is turning out to be a lot more work than I thought. I’m turning the corner on it now. I micro’ed in aluminum angle brackets onto the fuselage sides to hold the upright shelf portion in place. I finished the base by adding aluminum brackets to support the upright portion. I will […]
More work on the package shelf
This week I’ve been working on getting all the fiberglass work finished on the package shelf. This turned out to be a lot more work than I thought it would be. It also consumed a lot more BID and epoxy that I thought! After having fabricated the essential structure, I wanted to add hinged access […]
Seat belt hardpoints
Put the seat belt hardpoints in yesterday. I bought inertial retractable belts for the front and simple lap belts for the rear. Hardpoints were mounted as per the build manual: Micro-slurry under/around and 2 layers of BID on top.
Working on the rear package shelf
After consulting with a few Velocity builders on the different ways to close off the firewall and create a package shelf, I got started. This is my first fiberglass work on the plane. Good place to start as I am just building interior panels and nothing structural. I first cut 1/2″ foam to fit in […]
Start of my Velocity project
It took me a few weeks to get this website going, so I’ll bring the log up-to-date by summarizing what I’ve been doing the last few weeks. On December 10/09 I flew to Minneapolis then drove to New Richmond WI to do a final inspection and crate up the Velocity project I would buy. I […]
