More upholstery work

I’ve been doing some traveling, so I haven’t been spending quite as much as I would like on the plane these days.  The work in these pictures spans several weeks.  Although I haven’t shown pictures here, I have made trim frames for the front, side and strake windows and covered them with vinyl.  As you can see, I’ve also covered the pillars with vinyl.  Under the vinyl I put 1/8″ 90/10 foam from ChestnutRidge.  This foam is quite firm and provides an excellent feel when the vinyl is on.  Its not super squishy, but give a firm feel, but softer than if it were just vinyl on the fiberglass.

I also put the headliner in.  Although I’ve heard horror stories of people trying to put headliner in, I didn’t find it all that hard.  You just need to take your time.  I found the key was just sticking the aft most ~6″ first, then 6″ at a time, spray glue to the roof and headliner, let it tack, then press in place.  If you sprayed the entire headliner/roof and tried to put it on, you’d end up with a frustrating mess.

I foam/vinyl covered the vent rib down the middle of the roof.  I added lights/vents for both the front and rear seats.  I found these cool articulating lights for the front seats.  I put lights in the front overhead panel as well.  I will put a switch panel in it when I start on the electrical.

Finally, I upholstered the keel, again using the 1/8″ 90/10 foam.  I really love the fabric that came with the plane (part of a Velocity interior package).  It takes the glue very well, stretches a little and looks great.  I now need to create panels for the sides/strakes, cover the glare shield and do the carpeting.
