I’ve been working on sanding/filling the fuselage this week, but I thought I’d head up to the attic and check out the wings. I hadn’t really looked at them recently and I wanted to see how much sanding/filling work was left on them. I as I remembered, there almost there – just a little filling of some air pockets really and a few touch ups here and there. Shouldn’t be more than a couple days work.
But, while I was looking at them I noticed two things. On most Velocities I’ve seen, the winglets (and rudders) extend down below the wing a little. On mine, tho, they end flush with the bottom of the wing. After scouring the internets I did see a couple images of Velocity wings that looked similar. All the build manuals I have show the construction of winglets that extend below the wing.
Also, I noticed the “dog house” – the cover above the canard, is glassed onto the canard. Again, most velocities I’ve seen have a removable cover which is nice for easy inspection of the elevator mechanism and any avionics that are mounted on the canard. Not sure if I should re-do this and make it removable.
